Summer's Over and It Went Out With A BANG!

Hi PHAT HEADS! I'm sorry for not writing sooner, but it's been wild in PHAT CHANTS WORLD. The band has gone through major changes with the addition of a keyboardist/singer, Stephen Mahoney. We also had to replace Chris at lead guitar. He chose to go a different direction. Our new guitarist is Seth Wax. Is that a Santa Cruz name or what? Then out of the blue,Fernie, our drummer, had to leave the band too because he and his wife are expecting their first child. Thus enters Glenn Morse at drums. PHAT CHANTS is still alive and better than ever. I'd like to take a moment to thank John Morris, guitar player extraordinare, for sitting in with us while we search for Chris' replacement. We headlined at the Taste of Morgan Hill and I must say that it felt like we were playing on the surface of the Sun. Truly, it was 110 degrees. We thought we were going to die. You can check out our video of this gig on YouTube or gigmasters and soon there'll be a link from this site too. We had quite a storm here in Santa Cruz and we need the water, so who cares. Anyway, we are playing a great block party towards the end of Oct. and at the Summit Roadhouse on Halloween. Until later, ROCK ON my friends

The last time the boys played up at the Trout Farm was just awesome. A hot gig, kind of surreal at times. The music enveloped the whole scene. Easy to believe it was the only place on earth. A little, secluded place up in the mountains full of dancin’ people and loud music. Thought maybe I was at the Love Shack. The crowd was great just dancin’ their hearts out. At one point Jim and Cliff came out from behind their mics to dance with us. The band groovin’ with us on the dance floor, how cool is that.
Let’s just say the whole shack shimmied cause everybody was a movin’ and a groovin’!!

Peace out,

And oh yeah, keep on dancin’

Diana
Web Mistress, Girl Friday, and so much more
PHAT CHANTS

Well PHAT HEADS, it's been a while since I communicated with the masses (Does that sound a bit Catholic?) Anyway, the world seems to be imploding, but worry not, this is the perfect time to ROCK! Hip/Hop has lost it's glow. I mean, did you guys see the horrid Grammy Show? Five Hip/Hop stars, together, could not get a rise out of the audience, but one old Rock Star by the name of Paul McCartney had the place jumpin' It was extremely gratifying.
As for the world economy, we are all crew members on the starship earth. We all have our parts to play and duties to perform. Remember, this too shall pass. Think, speak, and act in a positive manner and others will follow.Eventually the world will be positive and we'll see that light once again. One way you can help is not to be afraid of having a good time. Go out and dance to live music. Support the local music scene. Whether you're seeing PHAT CHANTS or any other band, support them with tips and applause. It's so positive and helps your local economy bounce back.Love and Peace, I'm Out.
JD
Bass Player
PHAT CHANTS

Hi Friends,
A few weeks ago I wrote an inappropriate comment in this journal. I offended some readers and for that I deeply apologise. The comments I'm referring to have been taken down from the PHAT CHANTS site because it is not what this band is about. Please understand that my commentary did not in any way, shape, or form represent the feelings of PHAT CHANTS. I had a bad day that day and, being only human, I vented and I was wrong. Life is for beauty, light, and love. The most important part of this upcoming election is that everyone who is legally elligible to vote should vote. Whatever political leanings you have, they are valid. I sincerely apologise for any and all things I have written that can be interpretted in any negative fashion. Please forgive me and don't blame the others in PHAT CHANTS
Jim Davis
Bass Player
PHAT CHANTS

My fellow American PHAT HEADS. Ask not what you band can do for you,ask what you can do for your band! Buy our Cds, Go see us play, And, of course, HIRE US FOR YOUR HOLIDAY PARTYS! You've got to be sick of the dreary bands your boss hires each year (I won't mention any names, but you know who I'm talking about).
Summer is over and, wait a minute, let me wipe the tears from my eyes,I LOVE SUMMER IN SANTA CRUZ! PHAT CHANTS will be rocking the holiday season and we'll bring in 2009 with a clear message of HOPE! Our economy, and the world seems to be collapsing all around us, but just as Nero did while Rome burned, we will continue to play our guitars and rock. There are alot worse things to do at a time of crisis.Music will win the day and so will the people of this planet. There are much better days ahead if we all work together and love one another. That's all for now.ROCK ON
J. D.
Bass Player
PHAT CHANTS
the band

Hi PHATHEADS! Iam going to have to change the title of my ravings. It seems Rock is not only withstanding the hip-hop onslaught, but it seems to be repelling it! ROCK WILL ONCE AGAIN RULE THE WORLD!!! Having said that, I am so glad that spring is sprung and summer is right around the corner. For all of you reading this who have never been to Santa Cruz, California (the original SURF CITY) I pity you. Santa Cruz is the most fun town on the coast of the most fun state. It also means the band is playing ALOT! We are also recording a new Cd at the end of April. Stay tuned for more info on that. We've learned so many new songs in the past couple of months that my head is spinning ( but I'm not throwing up split pea soup yet) All is good with PHAT CHANTS and remember, if the world starts bringing you down, there's always music to bring you back up! MUSIC IS EVERYTHING! that's all for now
Jim Davis
Bass Guitarist
PHAT CHANTS

I've just returned from Lake Tahoe and I am very pleased the New York Football Giants beat the Cheating New England Patriots. I am a Rams Fan and when they beat us in 2002 it was bad, but to now find out that they cheated. THAT IS VERY DISTURBING!
Anyway, PHAT CHANTS is back and better than it's ever been. I am the only original member, but I am joined by a great guitar player and singer from Prunedale, Chris Stine on Lead. We also have Cliff Feldman on rhythm guitar/lead and he is also a wonderful vocalist. Fernando Ibanez is our drummer and percussionist, no vocals but a lot of great rhythms. Our first gig went great on New Years Eve and our first public debut was fantastic at Moss Landing Inn. The audience was huge and they seemed to like us. No beer bottles were thrown and they stayed until the end, so who can complain. The gigs are now beginning to roll in and, hopefully, we'll be somewhere near you soon. Check out our website to meet the new PHAT CHANTS and also find out when and where we are playing. Until then,
Later,
JD
PHAT CHANTS
Bass Player

and PHAT CHANTS hopes our planet has more than just a fat chance to survive. Actually, I have no doubt that the planet will survive, it's us carbon units I worry about.
Hey PHAT HEADS!
Do you realize that just when we thought the world was beginning to take global warming serious and there may be hope, the honey bees are in danger! This may seem trivial, but nearly 90% of all honey bees in the good ole' U.S. of A. have mysteriously disappeared. At first it was thought that a parasitic mite might be getting them, but NOOOOO!! Now it looks like it is...CELL PHONES and BLACKBERRIES!!! The signals these devices send off are interfering with the bees' navigational and communicational abilities. Scientists say that if we lose the bees, the human race will completely starve to death within four years! We don't know how to pollinate our plants, which in turn creates the food we need. Scientifically, bees aren't even supposed to be able to fly.I'm sure glad they can because they are the only way our planet gets pollonated. You remember "The Birds and The Bees" I just love that story.
So, when someone says to you,"Put down the phone and drive!" DO IT! Believe me, none of us are as important as we think we are.We do not need blue tooths stuck in our ears 24/7 We do not need to be "in touch" all the time. Take some time to be alone with your thoughts. You may find them interesting.I find mine a little scary.
Ane don't forget to DANCE YOUR ASS OFF to PHAT CHANTS.Check our calendar page for when we are near you and come and see us, but remember to TURN YOUR CELL PHONE OFF!!!!
Yours Truly, JD, Bass Guitarist for PHAT CHANTS, The Band

On Martin Luther King Day, we should all strive to be King or at least be like him. Anyway, hi all you PHAT-HEADS. This year is the year of PHAT CHANTS, according to the Chinese calendar or did I just make that up? I'm so confused. The band has had some fantastic shows lately and huge crowds. They must have liked us.I didn't see any pitchforks or torches. We have learned a myriad of new songs and, obviously, a new word...myriad, which actually means "an indefinite amount" or "ten thousand".Honestly, we have not learned quite that many new songs, but I like to exagerate. We are doing some private venues in February and we will also be learning another myriad of songs, but we will return to the public eye in March, 2007. Unless someone books us before that.
Check out our photo gallery for some pics of us in concert and leave us a note in our guest book. Until next time, Hasta La Vista, Baby. Be safe and kind to each other.JD
Bass Player
PHAT CHANTS
